Today Henry and I, are building a guitar. And we thought we would share some progress pictures with everyone. We call it the Gold Thread. It will be a spruce over walnut, 12 fret, 000. Here is the top. And here is Henry helping with the side bending. Stay tuned. More to come soon. Glen

Thanks for the pictures, Glen, I like seeing this kind of stuff. When you get a chance, could you tell us what's going on in the first picture with Henry, and what the contraption with the light bulbs is?

The thing with the light bulbs is a fox style, side bender. It works kind of like the Easy Bake Oven that my sister used to have. Here it is closed up with a side in it. Glen

I don't know much about guitars, Glen, but as an educator, I know a lot about kids. Henry is adorable! Apparently, you make good things....

Why is it called the Gold Thread?

The Gold Thread is the name my wife gave it. The 000 is a thread that tied in the time frame transition from classical guitars to the modern 14 fret, skinny necked, dreadnoughts. And we used gold abalone on the first one.

Hi Norm, The Gold Thread is on the back burner right now. I have a project that I "have" to finish first. This should be in another build thread but, we will have to get to that later. Here is the top to it. Red Spruce top, with Red Spruce braces before and after carving. It sounds pretty good so far. I tap tune my tops with a tuning fork. Like in this long video of the original Gold Thread. luthiertube.com/video/210/000-wAnd here is Henry playing Steve's mock up bass. Steve's bass is a multi scale. That is why the frets look crooked. Thanks for checking in on me. Glen

Here we are teaching Henry how to put an arm bevel on a guitar. Remember, you saw it here on The Wharf first. Glen
