Being surprised at the expensive, poor quality children's mechanical toys that are available, I have discovered the availability of vintage metal toys on Ebay.
Besides being transformed back in time, these are excellent value and useable alternatives to the Chinese plastic products. Anyone with children or grand children may want to consider a good used Tonka dump truck and front end loader like I did.

We have some German and US metal trucks at the cabin that are 1950s - 70s, and they love a home-made wooden barn my mother saved. My adult vintage toys are fountain pens and a few wristwatches.

I still have Schucco, Dinky, Matchbox and Corgy toy cars in their original boxes. Many of them are in very good condition and some are in mint condition. I checked their value on e-Bay and was surprised to see that if I sold my collection, I could by a nice Taylor electric guitar. It is unlikely that I will sell them however.
Edited to add, Matchbox

Yes, I looked up the value of my Matchbox and some brass HO model trains. Please no offense with my sarcasm, but I am not sure most Taylor electric guitar purchases would hold value in same way as those toys.

No offense taken but I wouldn't keep my toys for their resale value, only their sentimental value and I never buy guitars based on their resale vale but, rather, their value to me as musical instruments.

My brother and I had over 200 Matchbox cars and trucks collected over 15 years. They were fifty cents and we got them at the grocery store where we shopped.
