The politics get old.
Who's making something, playing something new, trying a new instrument or genre?
I confess to playing electric more since tearing a tendon in finger last year, and steadily moving toward owning fewer but better instruments.
A friend just pledged to start playing his bass again so I look forward to that!

Can't say I'm playing anything new. I've never been particularly good at playing guitar, and I go through stages of not playing at all, and then getting back up to speed on what I can actually play.
As far as new and music, though, I'm looking forward to SXSW here in Austin this week. It's a ton of fun with thousands of bands playing for about 5 days. A good friend is coming to town and we got a hotel downtown so we can just hang out there during its peak. Haven't really decided which bands to see yet.

That sounds a bit familiar in a few directions. I didn't really play for months last year after tearing a tendon. I can no longer fully close the finger. For the rest, it seems like I lose what I work on if I don't have time to play through lists. I've played more electric since the finger injury and have really enjoyed progressions that are either their own or underneath popular songs - something that lets my mind make a melody, on occasion do with my looper, and prep for my friends who keep failing on the promise to get together and jam. If my luck with craigslist keeps up, I'll soon be at the opposite end of GAS. I've tried and had several instruments and types over the past 7 years and am trimming it down to my favored acoustic and the 3/4 size travel guitar shared w/the kids. The electric aim is on each of single coil and humbucker guitar. Your Austin area is in mind because I'm lusting for a Collings SoCo 16 and would enjoy showing up for one of Redd Volkaert's afternoon shows (age showing up). I have airline miles I could redeem but my family would prefer they go toward 5 of us back on Grand Cayman.

I haven't done the Collings tour, although I have ridden my bike out in that area quite a few times. Just afraid that 'free' tour might end up very expensive!

My tour was 2.5 hours farther from Austin than my home and still got very expensive like you say. You might as well just take the tour. A few of the Collings were to be honest something like the effect of a bikini girl on a 14 year old boy. It was all over once this SoCo 16 was plugged in a Princeton Reverb. Total count is down, but so much for GAS-free. It's my first electric with 4 knobs and this big.

Very nice. GAS and the enjoyment of a nice bikini don't ever go away.

I might have hit the jackpot this week with answering a craigslist add to jam. Some guys either side of my age want to get something going and we had a great time at the drummer's place. Past efforts to do that usually got people who could be my kids with very different interests, somebody wanting to thrash metal, or too geared toward old time acoustic. What a fun afternoon to have a live drummer. Better yet, I was invited back. The bass player who answered the add said he didn't have gas money to make it but a bass playing friend of mine might come out of the closet for this. That will be heavenly to have drummer and bass player thing going on a regular basis.

I love it when neat stuff like that shows up on youtube. Not fiddle, but you might enjoy the 1970s (76??) Doc Watson documentary. As far as music, I've been busy and not jamming with others but will try to pick up the guitar for a few minutes before bed tonight.

Music was obviously a life style from him and many who played non commercial music. I think that you playing and relaxing for retiring is a continuation of that old time way.

I'm having fun with I-vi-IV-V. At one point I did an interpretation of Stand By Me (I don't sing) C Am F G acoustic. I think the Ben E King and John Lennon recordings are out of tune and A F#m D E. I watched this lin D Bm G A and look forward to more time figuring out what he's doing. I love the legato slide stuff with an electric. www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDDmIazDQFkThe best music news is this week I hope to return to a reborn public jam I used to do. It got reorganized to be at different sites and one of them will let me drop my daughter at gym and then go jam.
