I, for one, miss your instrument-building interesting posts. (I know you posted to the "birthday" greetings ;D). Anyway, what's cookin' on that Green Mountain? You OK? Building anything of late? Any requests from Mayville (I see a few guests like Jack Lawrence have been lined up!). WE WANNA HEAR THE LATEST!!

Hi Norm,
We're still here. ;D
We had a couple of days of nice weather. Unfortunately it melted off some of the snow and uncovered some home maintainance projects for me. I do have two guitars that I started, another top secret project that the Henry and I started a while ago, the dulcimer that we are still working on, and I have not started the repairs on the fiddles that I have to do yet. Never a dull moment in the guitar shop. ;D
No word from Mayville yet. Adding that to the list might be rather challenging this year. But we're still thinking about it. I see that the entry fee for the flatpicking contest is up to $40 from $20 last year. And the rules for this year are more specialized. I would like to see Jack Lawrence again. It was a lot of fun giving him guitar lessons last year. He knows quite a bit about the acoustic guitar. Building, repairing, and playing them. ;D
As a side job we are watching a friend of ours house for the winter. The snow melt is flooding his basement. He has this beautiful red carpet down there that is now floating in about 3" of water. I would never put carpet that nice anywhere in my house. Let alone in a hole in the ground like a basement with no sump pump. We have been sucking out about 50 gallons of water a day with a shop vac. And then dragging the water up the stairs and dumping it in the yard. Which probably seeps back through the ground into the basement again through the foundation. ;D
Yesterday the plumbers turned the water back on. The ice maker started filling up with water and didn't turn off. Which filled the freezer with water until it started pouring out the front of the freezer all over this beautiful hardwood floor in his kitchen. And then leaked through the floor dumping more water in his basement. I found what looks like the water line to the ice maker to turn it off but, it is disconnected. Very Stephen Kingish. So I turned off the main water valve to the house and that didn't stop it either. So I started turning off every valve in the house until it did stop.
This guy has poltergeists living in his house. They keep hiding his keys, moving things around so that he can't find them. I've been there when they do it to him. It's rather comical. He can't get a digital camera or a computer to work over there to save his ass. I think that he should have a medicine man from one of the local indian tribes come over and exercise the place. He did go to Brazil and had John Of God work on him. That seemed to work ok for about a year. Last fall he started having problems again. I think he needs to take a more direct approach with this one. ;D
Who knows what I will find over there today.
Glen

Wow! Well, a lot on your platter! I can understand you ain't exactly perched on the front porch, feet up, sucking on a stalk of wheat sipping mint-julips. "We" (Lutherans--in my "Occasional Services" book) actually have a kind of "exorcism" service for homes; it's called The Blessing of a House. I've only ever been asked to come over to someone's home and do it once. And it wasn't because of a haunting. It goes room to room, with a short prayer...like for the kitchen: "bless, Oh Lord, this place where nourishment and time together occurs. Bless the hands of those who prepare food here that feed not just the body, but the spirit (sic)."You really don't "need" a medicine man, or RC priest. If your friend has a Lutheran, or Episcopal (or RC) clergy acquaintance, have him ask them if they have any services for the "Blessing of a House/Home." Sue and I have ALWAYS had water problems in any home we've ever owned. I've sucked more than a few hundred gallons of water out of our basements over the years! So, I can relate. Good luck! As for Mayville, I haven't heard anything either, but then again, I likely won't.

Hi Glen,
What a time of it you're having! Have your friends thought about getting TAPS in to investigate their home? It sounds like TAPS would jump at the chance to do it and we'd probably see the investigation on Ghost Hunters.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your build activities soon!
Regards,
rebelrouser

Here is one of our projects that we should be working on. ;D We are making a wedge shaped body. Set the sides in the mold where ya' want it. Draw a line around the sides with a spacer block. Sand the sides close to the line. Put the sides back in the mold and sand them to the line with the radius dish. It really is that easy. ;D I dug up my septic tank so that it can be pumped out today. I think that I need to put a new wax seal on the toilet too. Probably not today. Let's see how long we can let it go before someone really starts to complain about it. Glen
