Some more pictures came in. The quilted sapele binding is being installed... as is the headstock inlay... and the frets are being installed...

Startin' to shape up there, Jim! Yeah, and the more is shapes up, the harder it is to wait. Jeff says the fretboard has been glued to the neck but he didn't send me any pictures of that. I think Jeff might have a sadistic streak in him. I want my guitar!

Mmm... more guitar porn! The quilted sapele lower bout bevel... the upper bout bevel...

ooooh. TWO bevels! I must've missed that build detail. Very nicely executed. Mr. Bamburg seems to have a way with wood...and bevels. Keep 'em coming, Jim! Very nice. Can't wait to see it all sprayed and buffed and strung up. What are you going to run on the guitar to start in terms of gauge, composition? Phos-Bronze? 80/20's, maybe Elixers? From the sublime to the ridiculous, I HAVE to get Jim Holler to do a set up on my RK RD-16SN! In a matter of a coupla days, some opening up has occurred--I know. Go figger. All of a sudden I'm hearing a much better low-end. But-the action is hard on the fingers, and I can tell because I can't make facile chord-formations or walk-downs. Sorry to even PUT this in a post about that hand-built!!

Sorry to even PUT this in a post about that hand-built!! Jeff was very generous regarding the upper bout bevel... no charge. He hadn't done one on a non-cutaway guitar before and was eager to give it a go. I don't do much playing at that end of the fretboard, but I thought it would give the guitar some nice symmetry so I was glad to have him do it. I'm not really sure where I'm going with strings on this guitar as it's my first baritone. Paul Heumiller over at Dream Guitars said he'd throw some different sets in the case for me when it ships. I'm probably going to set it up to tune standard C-C. But I play some songs in alternate tuning, mostly DADGAD, and that'll give me some options. That's good news for you about your Recording King. Even if it means having to spend a little money to get it back to comfortably playable condition, you're going to have a better sounding guitar and that's gonna make you pick it up more often (except when the new grandkid is visiting ;D). BTW, later in the summer I have a bouzouki build starting with a guy in New Zealand, Paddy Burgin. Hopefully they'll be lots of pictures to share.

Nice neck word--and the heel where it joins the body is very tastefully elegant as well. Must be getting near spraying and buffing time fairly soon.

Must be getting near spraying and buffing time fairly soon. Jeff thinks he'll be doing the finish next week. He's trying very hard to have this guitar in my hands for an early July recording session. The word of the day is "psyched!"

Wow! I'm psyched, too, and I am a total dweeb when it comes to guitars and stuff. Very pretty!!

Very nice (as per usual). Should be pretty soon! Maybe some restless nights ahead? Betcha can't wait. Hope you can give us a sound-sample once she's arrived.

I should get it in my hands sometime during the week of June 29-July 3. I have a recording engineer/musician friend coming for a 3-day working visit the next week and we'll get some recording done. And even though I'll be recording with mics, I opted for a Pick-Up-the-World pickup system in the guitar and I'm curious to see how that sounds.
